The male reproductive system is under close control of hormones and each change in their concentration and time of exposition and action can induce a deregulation of its physiology. In this review we summarize the most recent studies on two main categories of EDCs with different action: the estrogenic bisphenol A and alkylphenols and the anti-androgenic phthalates. This review describes the main effects of these substances on male reproductive system.

Endocrine disrupters and female reproductive health.

There is growing evidence of the impact of estrogenic contaminants in the environment. Studies have shown that male fish in detergent-contaminated water express female characteristics, turtles are sex-reversed by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), male frogs exposed to a common herbicide form multiple ovaries, pseudohermaphroditic offspring are produced by polar bears, and seals in contaminated ...

Deleterious effects of estrogenic endocrine disruptors on marine organisms: Histological Observed Effects and Some Novel Useful Monitoring Bioassays

Aquatic environments receive significant levels of chemical contaminants generated by human activities. Among these pollutants, we noticed the xenobiotics known as reproductive toxicants and endocrine disruptors. The endocrine disruption in wildlife has been the subject of many reviews and workshops in recent years. Field observations of reproductively abnormal organisms and population declines...

EDC IMPACT: Reduced sperm counts in rats exposed to human relevant mixtures of endocrine disrupters

Human semen quality is declining in many parts of the world, but the causes are ill defined. In rodents, impaired sperm production can be seen with early life exposure to certain endocrine-disrupting chemicals, but the effects of combined exposures are not properly investigated. In this study, we examined the effects of early exposure to the painkiller paracetamol and mixtures of human relevant...

Role of endocrine disrupting chemicals on the tissue levels of AhR and sex steroid receptors in breast tumours

Breast cancer affects Iranian women at least one decade younger than their counterparts in othercountries and the incidence of breast fibroadenoma is growing in the last two decades in Tehran. Thisstudy aimed to compare the AhR levels in premenopausal breast cancer and breast fibroadnemo withappropriate normal groups. Possible associations of AhR with lifestyle and reproductive risk factorsand ...

and diesel exhaust particles (DEP) are the major contributor to it. DEP contain many kinds of compounds that have several hazardous effects on human health, including lung cancer, allergic rhinitis, and bronchial asthma-like disease. An important aspect of the endocrine-disrupting effect of diesel emission is the potential for adversely affecting male reproductive functions. Diesel exhaust supp...
